Learn Art – First Steps

Many beginners start off learning art by making quick progress at the start, but then seem to reach a plateau where it’s only hard work that will take you to the next level. This is what makes the difference between an amateur and a professional.

If it’s possible to try and paint every day there is no substitute for actually creating the art which is the best way to learn.

It’s a good idea to learn art from other artists

Some initial steps to art learning involve choosing your direction. First, consider a style that appeals to you, i.e. whether you want to paint loose or a more detailed style.

It’s always good to paint loose first as you will acquire a flow which will be evident in your work.

Learning Art - First Steps

There will always be people who will have things to say about your work but this can be a good thing. Don’t be put off by negative comments, as the art world is highly competitive and as you get more accomplished there will always be jealousy and put downs, I should know I have had plenty in my career!

Once you are confident with this you can always start doing more detailed compositions.

I like to be able to look into a picture and discover something I hadn’t noticed before. This gives an element of surprise and makes things interesting. If you decide to learn art you will be surprised at how many new things you discover.
